16 April 2021 –Today, The Walt Disney Television Group formally announced the appointment of Kim Godwin as President, ABC News.  SRI, global executive search and consulting firm partnered with Disney General Entertainment on the appointment.

Godwin joins ABC News from CBS News where she has been an executive since 2007.

Godwin will make history as the first African American woman to lead a broadcast network news division.  She will fill the position vacated by James Goldston, who left the news division at the Walt Disney Co last month.

Godwin currently serves as executive vice president of news, with oversight of the national desks, foreign desks and bureaus.  Previous roles also include executive director for development and diversity and senior broadcast producer for CBS evening news.

Last year, the National Association of Black Journalists honoured Godwin with the Ida. B. Wells Award, given to those who provide distinguished leadership in increasing access and opportunities to people of colour in journalism and improving the coverage of communities of colour.
